Overview on Home Poker Buy-In and Re-Buy

The buy-in is a common term heard when playing poker. It is also an important factor to consider in a home poker game. In fact the buy-in is the main factor that will run the home poker game as this is the amount that poker players will spend through the home poker game.

Basically, the buy-in will determine how much money each player needs to prepare for the tournament in home poker. In good sense of the game, when the ante or blinds involved in a home poker game will be on the range of a quarter with a dollar as maximum raise, a buy-in of $20-$50 will be reasonable enough.

When setting a buy-in amount, it is important not to make it big enough that will affect the attendance of players to become fewer than expected but not too low that the tournament will not be taken seriously by the players.

The challenge will be to find a buy-in range that will interest poker players that will make them take your home poker tournament seriously and one that will not scare off players with an unaffordable buy-in rate.

Hence the main criteria for the buy-in should be one that is reasonably affordable. Take into consideration also the type of poker players who will participate on the home poker tournament. It can be reasonable to ask a higher buy-in rate from experienced poker players but this is not feasible for beginners.

Because home poker games are played with a fixed rate of buy-in it is important to determine whether the players are allowed for a re-buy. This refers to the opportunity for the players to buy additional chips in order to sustain playing longer.

Because the re-buy can draw an unfair game against players who have not enough money to buy more chips during the re-buy there are certain conditions that are attached to a re-buy upon the discretion of the host of the home poker game.

The re-buy will be allowed only on a certain period of time or else there will be no limit for buying more chips and the game will never end. When the intended game of home poker will take 4-5 hours, giving 2 hours of allowing re-buy during the game may be reasonable after which beyond this time, re-buying is no longer allowed.

Another condition will be to set a minimum amount from which the re-buy can be made. This will prevent players with big bankroll to keep buying chips that will keep them playing on the game. Furthermore, there is a fixed rate on the re-buy allowed to set equality on the allowable amount of chips a player can buy.

The re-buy option is however discretionary and optional. Many players of a home poker tournament prefer to play a no re-buy poker games as this gives all players equal chips to start playing with no additional chips involved throughout the end of the game.
